Hill: MK Dons Game Provides A Great Test For Us

31 July 2015

Manager Keith Hill looks ahead to Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Championship side MK Dons at Spotland…

“I know what it is that I want to do against Peterborough with the players that I’ve got.

“The MK Dons is a great test for us and gives me an opportunity to play with a little bit more imagination, as well as giving one or two of the younger players a bit more exposure/ responsibility in certain positions on the pitch as we look forward to the Peterborough game.

“At this moment in time we have three injuries – Rhys Bennett, Matty Lund and Joe Rafferty. Joe, who has got a little bit of tendonitis, won’t be back with us for the weekend.

“It’s important that we keep our players fresh, ready and raring to go, and fit. I’ve already lost my two number fours and they were important for me – Rhys Bennett and Matty Lund, so we’re going to have to come up with a permutation to do without those two players at least for the next four weeks.”

Saturday’s opponents secured automatic promotion to the Championship on the final day of the 2014-15 campaign, and Manager Keith Hill believes that it was well deserved.

“It was probably deserved over the last six or seven years - they were getting progressively better and better. The season before last probably wasn’t the best season but they blooded a lot of young players and they drew the benefit of that last season.

“I thought they were magnificent in the way that they try to play the game and the amount of goals that they scored - they were free flowing. They also utilised the loan market well, so fair play to them.

“It’ll be a great opposition for us on Saturday, leading into the game against Peterborough.”
