George Donnelly To Stay At Spotland

22 May 2014

As revealed exclusively on Dale Player on Wednesday, George Donnelly will remain at the club next season, with both the player and the club reaching a mutual agreement to extend his stay at Spotland.

When joining the club in 2012, the forward penned a two-year-deal with a one year option. To meet the criteria of the option, George had to play a high percentage of games last season, and with Manager Keith Hill keen to keep him at the club for the 2014/15 campaign, and the 25-year-old equally as keen to spend next season at Dale, he surpassed the number of games required to meet the criteria of his option.

Assistant Manager Chris Beech commented: “George has been an integral part of the success that we’ve had this season. His power, his pace and his presence puts the fear into any opposition that we play against. He has met that requirement of his option and he deserves an extra year for his hard work.

“We wanted to retain George because of those attributes that he offers. He offers something that is hard to contain, whether it’s late on in games, whether he’s starting the game or playing with a partner. He has also ran the line on his own at times and he has done that brilliantly, so we’re very pleased that he’ll be part of our League One squad next season.”
