Beech: Unbelievable

17 September 2014

Assistant Manager Chris Beech spoke to Dale Player following Tuesday night’s emphatic win over Walsall at Spotland…

“It was unbelievable, wasn’t it – I’m so pleased for the players,” Beech told Dale Player.

“We looked at Saturday’s game and felt unjust, to be honest with you, to be coming away from Sheffield United without anything.

“You could argue that we deserved all three points, so to not get any points was disappointing after the way that we played.

“We reflected on how we can improve that performance and the first goal tonight epitomised what we had seen over the weekend and what we talked to the players about on Monday. We scored the goal that we had discussed on Monday just five minutes into the game. For me, that was brilliant.”

He continued: “It was a euphoric moment playing Matty Done upfront and since then the team has had a different dynamic to it. The shape has just slightly changed, but you can’t argue with the performances that we’ve had and now that is being topped up with goals. To win 4-0 is unbelievable.

“The energy that we play with, the ability to press and pass the ball, and the ability to move off the ball is everything we do daily and it has come again when it matters.

“We know that we’ve got to be at our best to beat teams in this league. We’ve seen it early doors that you get punished for slight mistakes, but the players are quick learners and they’re learning to deal with the differences of the leagues, and believe me it’s a big one.

“We seem to be looking to get on top of them things now. The players were hungry [tonight] and wanted to eat. They went and ate.”

And Beech laughed: “We’ve won 4-0 on my birthday, so I’m a happy man!"
