Matty Gilliam netted a brace as the Youth Team’s unbeaten start to the season continued on Saturday.
They secured a point with a 2-2 draw against Shrewsbury Town at the Abbey Stadium.
Gillam finished from close range on the half hour mark to open the scoring but Dale’s lead only lasted three minutes. After goalkeeper Bradley Wade kept out the initial effort, the Shrews hit home on the re-bound.
Rochdale fell behind in the second half after conceding from a corner, which was headed into the top corner of the net. Six minutes later, Gillam latched onto the end of a defence splitting pass from Jordan Prescott and struck low beyond the Shrews ‘keeper from the edge of the area. The goal was Gillam's sixth in three games.
