Youth Team: Rochdale 4-1 Carlisle United

20 February 2017

The Youth Team’s impressive run of form continued on Saturday, as they recorded a comfortable 4-1 win over Carlisle United at Radcliffe Borough.

A young Youth Team lined up against the Cumbrians, with two under 16s and a under 15 starting the match.

Matthew Gillam opened the scoring after just three minutes and Declan Evans doubled Dale’s advantage shortly after the half hour mark, heading home at the near post from a corner.

Two minutes later, David Owusu raced onto a ball over the top and played in Aaron Morley to finish low into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the area.

Dale took a 3-0 lead into the break and added to their tally on 90 minutes through Elliott Murray, who dug deep to find space to get his shot away. He sent his effort from 18-yards beyond the outstretched goalkeeper.

In stoppage time, the visitors grabbed a consolation goal, sending a curling strike into the top corner.

The victory sees Dale unbeaten in 2017, having drawn one and won three of their four fixtures since the turn of the year.

Dale XI v Carlisle: Wade, Lenehan, Evans, Kearney, Adejuwon (U16), White (U16), Adshead (U15), Morley, Gillam, Piggott, Owusu. Subs: Appiah, Bradley (U16), Kuemo, Murray, Piper (U16).
