Josh Lillis Looking For Momentum

12 March 2018

Josh Lillis says Dale are looking forward to their upcoming run of games in Sky Bet League One, after recording back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

The Dale goalkeeper has kept consecutive clean sheets, in away victories over Walsall and Rotherham United, and hopes it will allow Dale to pick up momentum.

“With the back-to-back wins, we just want the next game to come as quickly as possible,” said Lillis.

“We have got a few games in hand and we're looking forward to them.

“We’ve not had a great season up until now, but we’re really digging in and hopefully we can pick up some momentum.”

Last week’s win at Walsall was Dale’s first game since the superb Emirates FA Cup run came to an end, and Lillis helped the side to victory by saving a penalty at a crucial time in the game.

“Tuesday night was important mentally for us, by picking up a win in the league after the cup run we’d been on.

“It’s always nice to save a penalty. At the time we were under a little bit of pressure and if it had gone in you just never know what could have happened.

“That’s what I’m there for, though, but it was pleasing that I saved the penalty and we got the win."

The 30-year-old had a major hand in Dale’s winner at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, playing the ball to Bradden Inman who assisted Stephen Humphrys’ winner.

“It’s always nice for a ‘keeper when you give it to one lad and they give it to another to score, so I class that as a bit of an assist for myself. You’ve got to take credit now and again!

“It was a good move. I know if I can deliver it to the players in attack, then they can handle the pressure and make the right choices.”

Dale face Southend United on Tuesday night in the first of three home games in a week, as Lillis and his teammates look to bridge the gap to safety.

“Results anywhere, at this stage in the season, are vital for us.

“We’ve drawn quite a lot of games this season, more than we have done in previous seasons, so to turn them into wins is fantastic.

“There’s only a few days between games and at the minute we’re just looking forward to the next game.”
